Hughes powers Reserve past Girard

Senior Aleah Hughes drove in three runs to help Western Reserve defeat Girard, 5-4 Saturday.

Girard, OH (WKBN) – Senior Aleah Hughes drove in three runs to help Western Reserve defeat Girard, 5-4 Saturday at the Girard Softball Field.

Hughes hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 1st inning to jumpstart the Blue Devil offense. But Girard came back with an RBI single by Gabby Cario to tie the game at 3. Reserve added more offense in the second inning to take the lead and held on with strong pitching from Maddie Kreitzburg.

Hughes went 2-4 on the day with a single, home run, 3 RBI, and one run scored.¬†Junior Maddie Kreitzburg threw a complete game for Reserve, with 4 K’s, 10 hits, and no walks, while adding 3 hits.Sydney Miller also had 3 hits, while Jenny Stubbs had two hits on the day for the Blue Devils.

Rosemarie Maderitz, Karlee Byrne, and Jessica Dohy all had three hits for the Indians.

Western Reserve improves to 6-5 on the season and 5-1 in the ITCL, while Girard drops to 6-5, and 3-3 in the AAC.
