NYPD officer shot; search continues for suspects

NEW YORK (AP) – Police in New York City say an on-duty officer has been shot and officers are flooding the area.

Authorities say the officer is in serious but stable condition at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens.

A spokesman for the New York Fire Department says the shooting was reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the Queens Village neighborhood.

Helicopters circled the scene hours after the shooting and there was a heavy police presence.

Police say a search for suspects was underway, and officers could be seen walking on roofs and searching house by house in backyards and under cars with flashlights.

No arrests have been announced.

City Hall officials say the mayor is at the hospital.

The shooting comes less than six months after two NYPD officers were shot and killed in Brooklyn.
