Fatal motorcycle crash claims woman’s life in Cortland

CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on state Route 46 in Mecca Twp., Trumbull County at approximately 5:49 p.m. Sunday.

A 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Monika Barnhart, 56, from Warren was southbound on state Route 46 and failed to negotiate a curve to the left. The motorcycle lost control, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned ejecting the driver.

Barnhart was transported by Cortland EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Barnhart was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The roadway was closed for approximately one hour.
