BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Returning home from vacation, Sean and Cherie Wright thought they’d lost their camera forever.

“I was looking all over for this orange camera. And I knew it had the dolphin pictures, underwater photos, the scuba diving, snorkeling and manta rays,” Cherie told News 4.

The couple misplaced the camera while vacationing in Hawaii recently.

“I was almost just mourning the loss; I took over 500 pictures on this camera,” she said.

Lucky for the Wrights, a good Samaritan who worked for the rental car company they’d used while in Hawaii, found it, and used social media to try and return it.

“It’s always sad to me that people lose their cameras and their holiday, their vacation pictures,” Lydia Hoeppner said.

She found that orange Nikon in the Lost and Found box at Hertz; it was left inside the Wright’s rental car.

“I turn it on and you saw the cute couple, so I’m like I gotta try,” Hoeppner told News 4.

So she did; she posted a photo from the camera on Facebook, hoping to reunite the couple with their camera.

And she had one big clue as to where they were from; Sean’s Buffalo Bills t-shirt. “That stood out,” she said.

Less than 24 hours after posting the picture, Sean saw it.

“I was just floored. I yelled for her upstairs, I said “Cherie you’ve got to see this!”And I couldn’t believe it, our camera was found,” he said.

Sean is from the Rochester area, but lived in Buffalo for a while. He wasn’t even sure he was going to bring his favorite Bills shirt along for the trip, but told News 4 it’s a good thing he did.

“I was showing my team pride, and thank God I wore that, it’s really what saved me,” he said.

Even more shocking, Sean said, is how social media made finding him so easy.

“Thankfully Facebook exists, it kind of brings people together that otherwise wouldn’t. I mean if this was 5-10 years ago this wouldn’t have been possible, and we wouldn’t ever have those pictures.”

But thanks to Hoeppner, they do.

As a thank-you, the Wrights are planning to send her a Buffalo Bills shirt of her own.

Hoeppner told News 4 she’ll happily become a fan.
