WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man who police have accused of accidentally shooting a fifteen-year-old in Warren Township is set to appear in court Thursday.
Thomas Catalde, Jr., appeared in Warren Municipal Court Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for his arraignment on a charge of reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. Police are holding Catalde without bond, and he is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing May 21.
Warren Township Police Chief Don Bishop said Wednesday that his department charged Catalde, the cousin of Jesse Hayes, 15, of Parma., who died in the shooting.
Before 11 p.m. Saturday night, police said Catalde shot Hayes in the face while showing off a new shotgun at a house on Rita Avenue in Warren Township.
Catalde said he didn’t know the gun was loaded before shooting it, according to Warren Township Police.
