Trial delayed for ex-Campbell teacher accused of sex with students

campbell teacher charged with sexual battery

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Lawyers for a former Campbell High School teacher accused of having improper relations with some of her students will now have more time to prepare for trial.

Shannon Wojtowicz was in court Wednesday morning for a hearing. She is facing charges of sexual battery, as well as illegally using minors in nude materials.

Although her trial was to begin Monday, her attorneys asked for more time to review evidence in the case. Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Krichbaum approved their request and trial is now set for Aug. 10.

Authorities said the one-time high school math instructor had sexual contact with a number of her students over several years. They say she exchanged picture messages with some of them, showing nudity.

Wojtowicz resigned from the district earlier this year.

The Ohio BCI’s Crimes Against Children unit investigated the case, since two of the woman’s relatives work for the city of Campbell.
