(WBAY) – A comedy legend who changed the face of late night television will take a bow Wednesday night.

David Letterman will host his final “Late Show With David Letterman” on CBS.

Jimmy Kimmel gave a tearful salute to his comedy hero during Tuesday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC. You can watch the touching tribute above or click here to watch.

Kimmel said he grew up watching Dave and he would host Letterman viewing parties with his friends.

“Little did I know that many years and many pounds later that watching the show was a great education for me,” Kimmel said.

“The reason I have this show is because the executives at ABC saw me when I was a guest on Dave’s show and hired me to host this show. So I want to thank Dave and his writers and producers,” he continued.

Kimmel will air a rerun Wednesday night. He’s urging people to watch Letterman’s farewell instead.
