Canfield holds off Mooney rally

Canfield celebrates their birth in the District Finall after topping Mooney on Wednesday.

STRUTHERS, OH (WKBN)-A 9th inning double-play helped Canfield avoid a late Mooney comeback to send them to the District Final 3-2.

Canfield pitcher Joey Machuga held Mooney without a hit for the first 3 innings, allowed only 2 hits and gave up 1 ER. His defense created 3 double-plays including a 1-3-6 DP in the final inning when Christian Lowery bunted, was thrown out at first as Trent Humphreys tried to go from first to third on the bunt, but was thrown out, ending the Mooney comeback.

Canfield jumped on Mooney in the 1st inning thanks to a Mike Sebes 2-RBI hit that opened the scoring.

Mooney ends the season with a 13-9 overall record. Canfield improves to 15-13 and will play Poland Thursday in the District Final at Cene Park.
