Lawsuit alleges hazing on Saint Joseph’s softball team

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A federal lawsuit filed against St. Joseph’s University by a former member of the softball team alleges that she was subjected to sexually charged hazing.

The lawsuit filed by the unidentified plaintiff alleges that during a weeklong hazing period in 2013, she was submitted to demeaning behavior such as being forced to perform a sexually lewd dance and ask and answer sexual questions and tell sexual stories. She alleges that she saw other freshman players forced to simulate sex acts.

The lawsuit alleges that she continued to be harassed and belittled, was “often reduced to tears and began having suicidal thoughts,” and was eventually forced to quit the team.

The university, which earlier suspended the team amid an investigation into hazing allegations, declined comment on the lawsuit Wednesday.
