Trumbull County students receive scholarships

HOWLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Top scholars gathered at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland Wednesday morning for the annual high school Scholarship and Recognition Breakfast.

Top students in Trumbull County were honored for the their academic achievement and walked away with scholarship money for their chosen colleges and universities.

“We are just very honored as an education service center to be able to present scholarships to students in Trumbull County who have academically excelled,” Trumbull County Educational Service Center Superintendent Michael Hanshaw said.

Students from Trumbull County’s 20 public schools were chosen by a selection committee based on grades and essays that were submitted. Youngstown State University President Jim Treseel was the guest speaker at the event.

The top honor of the $2,500 Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award went to Lexi Rager of Bristol. Two $1,500 Stanley L. and Grace A. Woofter Scholarships were awarded to David Ottney of Howland High School and Ashley Wolanzyk of Lakeview High School.

The following students received $500 textbook scholarships from the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award:

  • Madison Nicula, Mathews
  • Sarah Pack, Niles
  • Gianna Pishotti, Howland
  • Delaney Saxton, Brookfield
  • Brian Spence, Girard
  • David Vavrinak, Hubbard
  • Celina Vidman, Mcdonald
  • Ryan Wolanzyk, Lakeview
  • Shuran Xu, Liberty
