Cleveland police make daring fiery rescue

Cleveland police save driver from fiery crash.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Police in Cleveland pulled off a daring early morning rescue Thursday. Officers pulled a driver from a burning car, saving his life.

Cleveland police officers Brian Crites and David Kelley rolled up on the car just as it smashed into a bridge along east 55th in the heart of the city.

“I tried pulling on the door and it wouldn’t open, and at that time I heard a boof and I looked in front and I looked at my partner and said, ‘Now we have fire’”Crites said.

Crites called in to dispatch as soon as he spotted the accident and told them to step it up because someone was trapped inside the car.

Both officers got inside the car and pulled the drive rout. Seconds later, the fire wrapped around the car from the back to the front and inside the vehicle.

“The flames were actually to the top of the actual bridge,” Crites said.

Investigators are still looking at why the driver lost control.

The driver suffered injuries in the crash but is expected to recover.
