Protect plants from expected frost

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The area is kicking off the unofficial start of summer with the threat of frost overnight.

The good news is there is still some time to protect outdoor plants. The Home Depot in Boardman shared a few tips.

The best option is to bring the plants inside the house or garage. But if they are already in the ground, there is a few alternative options.

“If you already have them in the ground you want to try to use a light cover, such as a sheet. You don’t want to use any heavy towels or tarps or plastic. You want the plants to be able to breathe,” assistant manager Greg DeCarlo said.

They also recommend heavily watering the plants, which will help insulate the soil. The best window for frost occurs around sunrise.
