STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – A Struthers man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison today after pleading guilty in the death of another man last summer.
Roy Cleary pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated robbery charges last month.
He was arrested in July of 2014 in the stabbing death of Mark Westfall inside his apartment at the Struthers Manor. Investigators say he stabbed Westfall 47 times.
Westfall’s son told the judge his father was taken too soon.
“He will never have the opportunity to see his future grandchildren, never have the opportunity to take them fishing like he did my brother and I, never have the opportunity to teach them how to cook, go to church with them, or sit down for a minute and talk,” Chad Westfall said.
Prosecutors say Cleary killed his victim, who was a disabled veteran, to get his prescription pain pills. Judge Shirley Christian sentenced Cleary to a term of 20-years-to-life in prison.
