Struthers, OH (WKBN) – The Ursuline baseball team used a big first inning to pull away from South Range and win 13-3 in 6 innings Friday a Division III District Championship Game at Cene Park.
The Irish trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning, but then came back with 7 runs of their own to take an early lead. Ursuline would continue to add runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings, to seal the victory and their 5th straight District Title.
Junior Alex Schlosser had a huge game from the plate, going 2-3, and driving in four runs for the Irish. Vito Penza and Bobby Dulay also added 2 RBI’s apiece. Gianni Quattro had two hits, a run and an RBI. Starting pitcher Vinnie Lucente had 9 strikeouts from the mound in a complete game effort.
South Range finishes the season with an 18-11 overall record. Ursuline improves to 16-5 and advance to play Manchester next Thursday in the Regional Semifinals at Washington High School in Massillon at 2 p.m.
