WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – On Wednesday morning, Jodi Weaver appeared in Warren Municipal Court for her arraignment where he entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.
The charge was filed against her Wednesday in connection to an accident on West Market Street March 12 that killed her daughter, 17-year-old Alyssa Wynn. Investigators have said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
“This is a case where we believe her actions caused the death of another while operating a motor vehicle. The law prescribes that someone should be charged and let the courts number one, sort out whether they are guilty, and two, what the appropriate punishment would be,” Warren City Law Director Greg Hicks said.
Hicks said Weaver is only facing a misdemeanor because there were not any aggravating circumstances like drugs or alcohol that factored into the crash.
Weaver remains free on a $15,000 bond and is due back in court July 8 for a pre-trial.
