Red Cross Giving Day starts

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The American Red Cross is holding it’s first national donation campaign called Giving Day, Monday.

Red Cross Branches across the U.S. will be pushing to get as many donations as it can in one day.

According to the Red Cross website, the non-profit provides blood transfusions nearly every 15 seconds and aids nearly 200 families a day affected by house fires and other disasters nationwide.

Some of the other services the Red Cross provides includes help to military members, health and safety training and vaccinations.In Western Pennsylvania, the Red Cross provided financial aid to more than 15 hundred families a year. In Northeast Ohio, more than 12 hundred volunteers are available year round.

According to the Red Cross website, Donors must be 17-year-old, be feeling well and weigh at least 110 pounds.
