Reserve falls to Newark

Western Reserve earned silver Saturday after falling to Newark Catholic in the DIV title game

COLUMBUS, OH (WKBN)-Western Reserve allowed 3 unearned runs to Newark Catholic Saturday which allowed the Green Wave to win their 8th state baseball title in school history, beating the Blue Devils 6-0.

Senior John Clegg took the hill for Reserve Saturday going 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 ER in his final start as a Blue Devil.

Newark took the lead in the 1st inning thanks to a sac fly by Gabe Morris to give Newark the 1-0 lead.

The score would stay the same until the 4th when Jack Wollenburg hit a bloop single to right that pushed a run across making it 2-0. Later in the inning, an error with the bases loaded allowed the Green Wave to push three more runs across to push the deficit out of reach for Western Reserve.

Newark plated 5 runs in the 4th.

Western Reserve ends the season with a 23-6 overall record.
