YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The lawyer for an accused rape suspect is now asking for a gag order against prosecutors and law enforcement involved in the case against his client.
Robert Seman is charged with rape and gross sexual imposition.
This week, his attorney, Tom Zena, filed papers asking Judge Maureen Sweeney to approve an order prohibiting prosecutors and others from talking about the case, saying the publicity will make finding a fair and impartial jury locally, “a virtual impossibility.”
The young girl prosecutors said was Seman’s victim, Corrine Gump, died in a house fire March 30 along with her grandparents, the same day when Seman’s rape trial was set to begin.
So far, Sweeney has not ruled on the request.
