SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – The U.S. Small Business Administration honored Redex Industries of Salem, creators of Udderly Smooth moisturizing cream, on Tuesday for its longevity and success.
The company was founded in 1978 by Bill Kennedy with a $40,000 Small Business Administration direct loan. The company now ships its distinctive hand cream around the world and donates extensively to members of the armed forces.
“Over 60,000 retail outlets in the United States. We have Brazil, we have Canada, we have South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore,” Bill Kennedy Jr. said.
Gil Goldberg, District Director of U.S. Small Business Administration’s Cleveland District Office, recognized the business with the 2015 Northern Ohio Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business Award.
“These awards are given out annually to small businesses that have persevered, survived and grown, contributed to the community and passed the business down from one generation to another,” Goldberg said.
The entire family is involved in the company business.
“We are a family-owned business. So we do whatever we need to do to get through the day. My title on my card is director of operations, which only matters if you see my card,” Linda Kuzior said.
There is plenty of work for the next generation.
“As we get more and more generations in the family, I think that is where we are going to have more of a niche that we can continue to get our product into more countries. It is a very long process,” Kennedy said.
