Rock falls off hauler, smashes through windshield, kills man

HOPE, Maine (AP) – A large rock has fallen off a vehicle in Maine and smashed through the windshield of a car, killing its driver.

WMTW-TV reports the accident happened Tuesday afternoon on Route 17 in a small town named Hope. Police say the rock fell of a vehicle that was hauling a load of stones estimated at 6 to 8 inches wide.

The Knox County sheriff’s office says the male driver of the car was killed and his wife was injured. The wife has been taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and shock. Police haven’t released their names.

Police don’t have a description of the vehicle that was hauling the rocks. They say the driver may not be aware of the accident.
