YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In light of recent shootings involving children in the Mahoning Valley, WKBN 27 First News wants to help you keep your kids safe around guns.
Tuesday, WKBN is giving away free cable gun locks that can be used on most firearms. The gun lock giveaway will be held from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the WKBN studios at 3930 Sunset Boulevard in Boardman.
Mahoning County Sheriff’s deputies will be on hand to show you how to safely install the locks and store firearms.
“Parents should keep in mind that a child the age of three has the capability in their finger to squeeze the trigger,” Akron Children’s Hospital Safety Expert Andrea Neuman-Taddei said.
The National Rifle Association reports that 1.7 million kids live with guns in their homes across the country.
