YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A south side Youngstown man charged with beating his dog will have to return to court again in late July for another hearing.
Jawan Johnson is facing one count of animal cruelty. Investigators said he beat his 8-month-old puppy “Snappy” with a brick and a glass bottle in May.
Before Friday’s hearing, protesters started gathering outside Youngstown City Hall to spread their message that pet owners won’t get away with abuse.
“Standing on the sidewalk, utilizing social media, sitting in front of the courtroom, they all send a message that we support our animals and we love our animals,” animal activist Jason Cooke said.
Johnson’s next pre-trial hearing is set for July 28.
