SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) – Authorities are investigating a shotgun shooting that seriously injured an 8-year-old boy and plan to meet with a prosecutor next week to discuss the case.
Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly told the Springfield News-Sun that the boy was shot Friday afternoon at his grandparents’ home in Springfield Township. Kelly says the boy’s condition had been upgraded to stable Saturday. Authorities aren’t releasing the child’s name.
A sheriff’s office statement says five boys were alone in the house when the shooting occurred. Deputies said one account of the shooting was that one boy apparently was carrying a shotgun when it went off.
Authorities say the children were ages 8 through 17 and the ages were appropriate to be home without an adult.
But investigators say they have unanswered questions.
