Runners raise money for charity.

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — Local runners and walkers hit the pavement Sunday morning for a great cause.

Vertical Runner of McDonald, and Big Brothers Sisters held a 5K run and one mile walk event.

Participants started at Prospect Elementary in Girard, then took a turn into Liberty Park to hit the trails.

All of the proceeds from the event benefits Big Brothers Sisters in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

“We’re actually able to help kids be mentored in a positive direction…Many times we need mentors cause we can’t do our job right if we don’t have mentors and good volunteers and because of things like this. Vertical runners helping us so we can reach children in need and children that need somebody in their life.,” said Kim Caroline, Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

This is the first in a series of “Trail Mix” races that provides a mix of road and trail running.
