CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – School is out for the summer, but for some kids, that does not mean they get a break from learning.
Summer camps are in full swing throughout the Valley. One of the most interesting is happening inside the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield.
Nearly 100 students in grades 6 through 8 are learning a new skill this week. From cooking to engineering, these are not the average middle school classes.
“It is very important for kids to start early and explore careers. Not that they are deciding what they are going to do at this point, but it allows them to find out what they like and don’t like,” MCCTC principal of curriculum Jackie Kuffel said.
Other classes offered at the MCCTC summer camp include medical occupations, exercise science, cosmetology and welding.
