YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Slide the City is coming to Youngstown’s Market Street Bridge on June 27.
It is a 1,000-foot slip and slide on padded vinyl. But how safe is the event?
It recently came to Pittsburgh, where it was set up in a park, and people said they got hurt. The two-day event drew 9,000 people.
Youngstown Director of Downtown Events Michael McGiffin expects about 2,000 people for the June 27 Slide the City event. We asked McGiffin what is being done to protect participants.
“You are not even going to feel the roadway when you are on this and then there are volunteers at the bottom with padding almost like American Gladiator that sort of caution you to slow down and then you end up in a pool of water,” McGiffin said.
People have to pay to go down the slide and are required to sign a waiver.
