Dr. Shayesteh: Trans Fats may worsen memory

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Everyone knows that trans fats are bad for your health, but new research shows they also may be bad for your memory.

Trans fats are one of the worst for our diet and come from fried foods, baked goods and fast food. Trans fats are bad for cardiovascular health because they increase the level of bad cholesterol and lower the level of good cholesterol.

Dr. Shayesteh said a new study looked at 600 men who ate trans fats and as their intake increased, their memory function decreased. The research suggests trans fats may cause inflammation, which could affect our brain function.
