SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – The Salem Fire Department confirmed Friday morning that a gas leak in the city has been fixed.

A Salem Fire Department worker confirmed that the leak, which sprung around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Franklin Ave. and S. Lundy Ave., was repaired around 10:30 a.m. The Salem Fire Department, Salem Police and Columbia Gas worked to fix the leak.

A fire department official said that a contractor replacing a gas line in the area ruptured a line during an excavation. Six residents who live near the leak had to be evacuated, according to the fire department. Residents have since returned to their homes.
