Same-sex couple is planning July wedding at Mill Creek Park

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown couple planning their wedding for next month can now legally get married at home.

Michelle Hillier and her fiance Melanie are set to exchange vows on July 26. They were going to get a license in Pennsylvania and then have the ceremony in Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek Park, but after Friday’s Supreme Court ruling, everything can happen here.

Hillier said Thursday’s decision left her speechless and unbelievably happy.

“Getting emotional now just speaking of it. Because it is something, you know, I have always wanted and finally now, we get to have the same rights as every other single person out there with no discrimination at all. And that is what it should be about,” Hillier said.

She said she came out at the age of 22 and now at 44, she feels like this ruling came much earlier in her lifetime than she anticipated. She thought she would be in her 60s or 70s when this ruling happened.
