CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A project that has been years in the making is finally getting under way in Canfield.

Ground was broken Monday for a new Mahoning County Educational Service Center. It will be located on property owned by the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

Currently, the county leases space at DeBartolo Place on Market Street in Boardman. The service center provides training for administrators and teachers in the county.

“Most of the rooms we have right now are not set up specifically for those purposes. We are going to have state-of-the-art conference facilities that we will be able to provide the latest and greatest technology,” Mahoning County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ron Iarussi.

The project will cost $8.5 million and it should be open in 2017. The Educational Service Center will save money on the cost of the lease.
