Youngstown police thwart vehicle theft, uncover another stolen car

Car runs into building during police chase in Youngstown, OH.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown investigators are reviewing security video to identify a group of suspects in a vehicle theft and attempted theft.

Police were called about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday to Grovewood Manor on Hillman Street on reports of suspicious activity.

When they arrived, they saw a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer that was running and a black Buick LaCrosse. When the suspects in the Trailblazer saw police, they jumped out of the vehicle and ran away in multiple directions.

The Buick then moved forward and hit the side of the building, before its occupants jumped out and fled.

Due to a fence separating the two lots, officers were too far away to successfully give chase on foot, according to the police report.

Officers discovered that the Trailblazer was reported stolen earlier in the night and the Buick’s owner was not aware that her vehicle was missing until police contacted her.

Later that night, officers were called to the Shell gas station on Market Street for an unrelated stolen vehicle report. Police discovered that the station had security video of the Trailblazer and its occupants from earlier in the night.

No arrests have been made.
