Map details shark bites on East Coast

A map shows the shark bites along the East Coast.

(CNN) – It’s almost enough to make you think twice about getting in the water.

According to the International Shark Attack file at the University of Florida, ten people off the coast of North and South Carolina have been bitten by sharks.

That’s higher than the average of six attacks a year off the coasts of those two states.

The director of the Florida program for shark research says drought and warmer waters may be factors in the increase of attacks.

The most recent shark bites involve a 9-year-old boy in Isle of Palms, South Carolina and a swimmer on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina.
