Gunfire critically injures several man early on July 4

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Police say gunfire around the city of Philadelphia early on Independence Day sent several people to hospitals in critical condition.

A man leaving a north Philadelphia club reported being accosted and shot at by another man, but he drew a weapon from his book bag and returned fire, critically injuring the other man.

Outside another bar in the same area, two men were shot during a fight among a group of males; one was critically injured.

Officers flagged down in west Philadelphia found a 36-year-old man shot in the chest; he was unresponsive and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police said a 29-year-old man and 32-year-old man were taken to a western Pennsylvania hospital in critical condition after a reported gun battle with two other men.
