CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – Police arrested a man in Campbell Friday night after they say he fired a handgun into a group of teens who were fighting.
The incident happened about 9:30 p.m. on Chambers Street.
Marcus Powell, 45, was arrested and is being held in the Mahoning County Jail on aggravated assault and other firearm charges.
There were about 20 teenagers involved.
Kenetta Hosey lives nearby and called 911 when she heard the shot.
“The next thing I know, I hear a pop. My head is down, so I look and I see the sparkle. I don’t know if it was a firework or a gunshot,” Hosey said.
Powell’s nephew, Anthony Powell, said his uncle shouldn’t have gone to jail.
“Police show up, and they arrest my uncle talking about that witnesses out here say he shot the gun,” Powell said. “They took him to jail and searched the house, but they didn’t find any gun.”
Police did find a gun at a house two houses away, but Marcus Powell does not live there.
Powell is scheduled for his first court appearance next week.
No injuries were reported.
