Aberdeen completes sweep of Scrappers

The Aberdeen Ironbirds topped the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-3 Monday night at Eastwood Field.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Aberdeen rallied from a 1-0 deficit to top the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-3 at Eastwood Field.  The Ironbirds used a 5-run seventh inning to take the lead and complete a 4-game series-sweep.

D’vone McClure finished with two hits in the loss.  Willi Castro, Mark Mathias, and Joack Goihl each drove in a run for Mahoning Valley.

Starting Pitcher Shao-Ching Chiang tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts.  Jose Zapata suffered the loss, after allowing four earned runs in relief.

Mahoning Valley drops to 5-12 on the season.  The Scrappers have an off-day Tuesday before opening a 6-game road trip in Vermont on Wednesday night.

Aberdeen improves to 9-9 on the campaign.
