WKBN continues to probe Mill Creek fish death

A fish kill at Mill Creek Park is under investigation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – First News is digging deeper Tuesday into the fish kill problem at Lake Newport in Mill Creek Park.

Monday, WKBN reported that dead fish littered the lake and the area is permeated with a foul fishy smell. MetroParks officials said the fish deaths were the result of runoff caused by those heavy June storms.

The park called ODNR, the Ohio EPA and the USDA a week ago.

The EPA confirmed the fish died because of water runoff from the city storm and sanitary sewer system.
