NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Some residents in Niles are fed up with a subtle. but potentially dangerous, prank.
Fishing line is being strung in several neighborhoods, but no one knows how it gets there.
“You wake up and you got all this fishing line. I have probably had two spools of fishing line that I have taken down so far,” Niles resident Michael Wilson said.
Lucy Griffin first noticed it on South Street a year-and-a-half ago, but she said it keeps happening. Just last week, she was sitting on her front porch drinking a coffee when she saw more.
“I had found it hanging in the middle of the road. I didn’t want any cars to get caught up in it, something happening to their car, so I took immediate action, stood in the middle of the road and just started taking it down,” Griffin said. “There is a lot of danger that goes around. We have four-wheelers and dirt bikes going up our road. They can get tangled up in it, that could possibly choke them or whatever when they are going around. It can definitely do lots of harm to a child.”
Nearby on Mason Street, John Chiody is fed up too. He walks with a cane and is afraid he will trip in his backyard.
“I don’t know where it is coming from. It is on my house, it was on my shed, my garage. I went out in between my shed and got tangled up in it,” Chiody said.
Our news crew found some of the fishing line hanging from trees and strung over a garage.
“I don’t know why they are doing it. I just wish that they would stop doing it before someone seriously gets hurt,” Griffin said.
