Warren woman pleads guilty to shooting friend

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Warren woman pleaded guilty Friday to accidentally shooting and killing her friend at a park in Warren in the summer of 2013.

Lakeisha Bell, 21, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and carrying a concealed weapon and will serve 16 years for the offenses.

Bell previously had pleaded not guilty in the fatal shooting of her friend, McKayla Hopkins, 18, at Bell’s birthday party during the summer of 2013.

The shooting happened near a pavilion at Perkins Park.

Police said Bell was celebrating her birthday Aug. 2, 2013, at Perkins Park when she accidentally shot Hopkins in the torso.

A witness said Bell was showing the gun to party attendees when the gun went off.

Bell, at the time of the shooting, was free on $20,000 bond, after she was charged with two felony counts of aggravated drug trafficking a few months before that.
