YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In honor of the life and contributions of President Abraham Lincoln, Canfield artist Ray Simon was commissioned for the painting that is now hanging in the Mahoning County Courthouse.

More than 100 Civil War reenactors and other spectators came to watch the unveiling Saturday of the painting “America’s Story.”

The 6-foot-4-inch-by-5-foot portrait is a copy of the original portrait, which is in the permanent collection of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation Museum in Springfield, Ill.

According to Simon, his painting sends a message of love and tolerance in a time of high racial tensions.
