Preview: Southern Illinois returns 4 offensive starters and 5 defensive from last year’s 6-6 team with a total of 27 letter winners…Coach Dale Lennon returns his senior quarterback Mark Iannotti (Schaumburg, IL), who was named to the league’s All-Newcomer team last year after tossing 22 touchdowns. Iannotti will have two starters up front along the right side back in tackle Ethan Wirth (Williamston, MI) and guard Jake Notario (Monroe, MI). Wirth is a former transfer from Toledo and Notario has started 17 games over the course of the past two seasons. …On defense, the Salukis welcome back both of their safeties – D.J. Cameron (Florissant, MO) and Kenny James (Columbia, MO). Cameron, a senior, has made 34 consecutive starts and finished third on the team with 75 tackles. James started the final five games as a freshman a year ago as he was able to compile 36 tackles during that stretch. At linebacker, Southern returns Chase Allen (Belleville, IL), who led the defense with 95 tackles. Senior defensive end Adam Brandt (Stevens Point, WI) finished the 2014 campaign with 4 quarterback sacks.
