No arrests at Austintown OVI checkpoint

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – During this past weekend’s OVI checkpoint in Austintown, police saw 534 vehicles pass through the checkpoint, with no arrests and one court summons issued for driving with a suspended license, according to a press release.

The release also states that alcohol-related fatal crashes in Mahoning County have been on the decline of late.

According to the release, crash data from 2010 to 2014 shows that there has been a:

  • 6% decrease in total alcohol-related crashes
  • 8% decrease in alcohol-related injury crashes
  • 7% decrease in alcohol-related fatal crashes

The decrease means that Mahoning County will receive only 75% of its current funding from the federal government in the fiscal year of 2017 and 50% in 2018, the release states.
