2 purses stolen at Wal-Mart in Liberty

Liberty, Ohio Walmart purse snatching suspects

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – Wal-Mart surveillance video shows suspects taking purses from shopping carts in Liberty Township.

One theft happened inside the store. A woman was just feet away from her shopping cart when someone took her purse with around $300 in it, according to a police report.

The other happened outside in the parking lot. A woman thought someone took her purse from her cart, but surveillance video shows she left her purse in the cart when she returned it. Someone snatched it up. Police have found both purses, but said the cash is gone.

“Obviously the cash is missing. One bag still had the checkbook, still had her phone, believe it or not. How we recovered it, we kept ringing and ringing the phone,” Meloro said.

Police do not think the thefts are connected, but they are reminding everyone to be aware of their surroundings and not give anyone the opportunity to steal their belongings.

“If you eliminate the opportunity, you eliminate the crime,” Liberty Police Capt. Toby Meloro said. “I know it is easy to leave things, especially when you are shopping, like a purse or a bag, but there are people who prey on that.”

Police do have a description of the suspects.

Meloro said the first one was a black man and woman in their late 40s or early 50s. Meloro said the second one was a white man in his mid-30s that was walking through the store and saw the purse and grabbed it out of the buggy.
