SOUTHINGTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Friday, Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere released the names of two deputies who fired their weapons in a fatal Tuesday shooting in Southington, according to the Tribune Chronicle.
Altiere identified the deputies as Dario Poledica and Dallas Young. According to Altiere, Charles Crandall fired at a group of police officers, including Poledica and Young, that appeared at his door. Return fire from the officers killed Crandall.
Altiere did not specify in the article which officer fired the fatal shot, or if it was possible to determine which officer fired the shot. Poledica and Young have been with the sheriff’s office since 1997, Altiere said.
Breanna Kovar said her grandfather, Jim Kovar, would take Crandall to run errands from time to time.
And that is exactly what he was doing Tuesday around noon, when Crandall opened fire on him with what they believe is a .22-caliber rifle, hitting Jim’s truck.
Jim took off, uninjured but shaken up, and called 911, leading police to come to his house.
