Mother nature turns up the heat for Blazing Bats tourney

Players tried to beat the heat in Liberty, Ohio for the Blazing Bats Tournament

LIBERTY, Ohio (WKBN) – It has been a hot and humid weekend for softball players in Liberty Township who have been playing through some of the warmest days of the year.

Thirty two teams met in Liberty for a regional qualifier on Saturday and Sunday in the Blazing Bats tournament.

The tournament is run by the Liberty Firefighter Union. Local 2075 president Justin Graham said it can be difficult to beat the heat.

“This year has been a little rough. Yesterday and today upper 80s and 90s – the humidity. We are providing plenty of water. Especially the umpires. Everybody thinks about the players, these guys are out there umpiring the game and it gets hot for them,” Graham said.

Winners of the Blazing Bat tournament move on to nationals.
