Pools, bikes and trails challenge racers in Youngstown triathlon

The YMCA Triathlon was held over the weekend in Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – More than 100 people took to the pool, the trails and the streets Sunday morning for the annual YMCA Triathlon. And it wasn’t just for adults.

Children and adults kicked of the event with a swim at the downtown YMCA before hopping their bikes and heading for Mill Creek Park.

Next, the racers ran through the campus of Youngstown State University, but the distance was shortened for the 70 kids who took part.

For the young and old, the triathlon was an opportunity to work on physical fitness.

“It is a great activity. It just helps you feel like you have accomplished, at least I did, accomplished something. It gives you a goal. It is a lifestyle change,” said Eric Buckingham, YMCA membership director.

Organizers say that 70 adults and 70 kids took on the challenge.

The YMCA awarded top finishers in each age group.
