AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In a unanimous vote on Monday, the Austintown Local Schools Board of Education voted to change the name of the football stadium, which will bring in $330,000 to the district over the next 10 years.
“That money will be reallocated back into the classroom. In an essence, Mr. Greenwood is helping classrooms,” Austintown Schools Superintendent Vince Colaluca said.
Through a marketing company based out of Cleveland, Greenwood Chevrolet is teaming up with the school district. The new name of the stadium will be Greenwood Chevrolet Austintown Falcon Stadium.
Colaluca saids the money will be used to make upgrades to the stadium, keeping other dollars from the general fund in the classrooms.
“Dollars that we won’t have to spend in athletics and the money we’re able to use to revamp the stadium and put dollars toward athletics. Those won’t come out of the general fund,” Colaluca said.
Larry Jaeger with Hunter Sports Marketing said this is the first Mahoning Valley district to sell naming rights to the stadium. Other districts are now looking to make similar deals.
The district will get two checks from Greenwood, one up front and the second in five years. The marketing company will get nearly $50,000 from the deal.
