Loon rescue in Pulaski Township caught on camera

Loon rescued in Pulaski Township, Pa.

PULASKI TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WKBN) – Two police officers from Lawrence County were called into action on Monday for a rare rescue.

Lt. John Rand from Neshannock and Sgt. Chad Adams from Pulaski helped save a loon along Nashua Road in Pulaski Township. Rand threw his coat over the bird as Adams recorded the event with his camera.

They called the Wildlife Conservation Office first for advice, and were told loons can’t walk on land and to be careful because they have extremely sharp beaks that easily rip the skin.

Conservation officers believe another bird disrupted the loon’s flight pattern and it landed just shy of its destination, which was a nearby quarry. Lt. Rand was able to pick him and get him back in the water.
