Stay-in-Softball hosts free clinic

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Nearly one-hundred young softball players from throughout the area gathered at Candlelite Knolls Monday evening for a free clinic.

The event was put on by Stay in Softball…and was hosted by Valley Extreme Girls Fastpitch and the Bazetta-Cortland Optimist Club.

Some of the area’s best travel coaches and players taught the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching, and catching to area youth ages 8-12.

Stay in Softball founder Meghan Mckeogh is just 14-years old…but is well aware of the benefits of the sport.

“Personally for me, it’s helped me meet a lot of amazing people through this sport. So, I want other girls to to know what that’s like,” said McKeogh.  “Even if they don’t have the resources to get there on their own.”

Valley Extreme 14-&-under Head Coach Dave Kelm is thrilled to be a part of the clinic.

“Our players themselves are learning to be more responsible young adults…to take authority and get involved with the youth at a younger age than I think we even did,” he said.  “And, of course, it’s getting the younger players looking up to those girls, looking up to the coaches and getting them involved with it too. It’s a great thing for everybody. So, we’re happy to be a part of it.”
