Key Losses: Among the 24 seniors who have since graduated, the team lost six all-district players. Offensive lineman Ben Witt and linebacker Chris Romano leave a major hole on the Bulldog roster. Romano finished third on the team in tackles (57) and quarterback sacks (2.0). He also served as the team’s primary punter, averaging 32.3 yards per kick. Andrew Grove played a key role on offense and from his secondary position on defense. Grove caught a team leading 16 passes for 227 yards while gaining 269 stripes via the ground while scoring 7 total offensive touchdowns (6 rushing, 1 receiving). Andrew also was involved on 57 tackles and 2 interceptions. Ryan Pishotti led the team with 5 picks (22 tackles) while establishing himself as the Bulldogs’ second leading receiver (13 catches, 153 yards). Michael Mannella may not have eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau in any of his four seasons during his career but he was able to rush for 2779 yards and score 37 touchdowns on the ground. Kicker Matt Pasternak did not miss a single extra point (30-30) and kicked a 42 yard field goal last fall.

Key Returnees: Nick Boldt served as the team’s quarterback as a junior last year. He completed 31 of 68 passes (45.6%) for 393 yards and 2 touchdowns. Boldt also finished second on the team in rushing with 509 stripes and 4 scores. As a sophomore in 2013, Angelo Marino ran for over 700 yards (752) and threw for over 1500 (1534). He’ll add another dimension to the offense this season. On defense – Lakeview will have back John King (led team with 68 tackles), Brendan Jones (60 tackles), Mitchell Franco (4 sacks), Sean Rein (36 tackles), Boldt (35 tackles), Mason Motts (31 tackles) and John Estlack (30 tackles).

Key Storyline: After opening the season with three of their first four away from Cortland, Lakeview has a schedule which plays favorably in the latter part with four of their final six at home. Coach Pavlansky will have his work cut out for him this summer trying to replace the amount of seniors which he had a year ago. However, the Bulldogs’ appear to have a foundation set which can only help them get over this hurdle.

Strengths: Lakeview held six of their ten opponents’ last fall to 14 points or less. The Bulldogs return a ton on defense as they’ll try and duplicate that success again this year. Mitchell Franco and Brendan Jones both are back in the fold up front while John King, Sean Rein and John Estlack all return at the linebacker positions.

Weaknesses: The Bulldogs have a bunch of questions on the offensive side of the ball, most glaring along the line. The unit will be a youthful, inexperienced group as the staff will hope to find a few hidden gems this summer. Over the past three seasons, the line has opened holes to average over 185 rushing yards per game in each campaign since 2012.

Game to Watch: August 28 at Campbell
…The Bulldogs may have missed the playoffs last year but they’ll be seeking a return trip in 2015. Lakeview’s hunt for November begins in week one with a trip to Campbell.
