Second Harvest receives big pet food donation

Second Harvest receives nearly 400 pounds of pet food.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A big donation to Second Harvest Food Bank will help family pets get through the dog days of summer.

The Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club donated about 6,000 pounds of dog food to Second Harvest Food Bank in Youngstown. They also brought a couple of their show dogs to join in Monday’s donation event.

The Kennel Club raised the money to buy the nearly 400 bags of food at their annual Christmas Auction.

The food was purchased at a discount from Blackwood Pet Food in Lisbon.

“We have done this two times prior, so we knew it was a good thing to do,” said Tyne Horvath, Mahoning –Shenango Kennel Club. “Blackwood pet food gives us a really good deal for the money that we raised.”

The Kennel Club is hoping their donation will help keep dogs from going hungry in the area.

The Second Harvest Food Bank will distribute the dog food to hunger relief groups in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
